On September 15, Library Science · Encyclopedia of China (Third Edition) was published officially at the 2023 Chinese Library Annual Conference held in Zhengzhou.

Library Science · Encyclopedia of China (Third Edition) is the first time that library science has been listed separately and published independently, which has important historical and contemporary significance. The compilation work started from September 2014, and 14 branches including library science theory, library history, philology and document protection, bibliography and digital library were set, with 1,870 entries and nearly 2 million words.

Chuanfu Chen, Professor at our School, is the Editor-in-Chief. Li Chen, librarian at China Central Institute for Culture and History, and Professor at Sichuan University, and Ximing Xiao, Professor at our School, are associate editor-in-chiefs. 227 experts and scholars from all over the country participated in the compilation, which was published by Encyclopedia of China Publishing House. It is a huge cultural project jointly completed by scholars of library science theory and practitioners in library industry.

Library Science · Encyclopedia of China (Third Edition) is rooted in Chinese culture, pays attention to cultural inheritance, and fully embodies the long history of Chinese literature classics and library tradition. It is a new style encyclopedia connecting tradition and modernity, and it is also the first encyclopedia in library science with interactive paper and digital version in China.

Ying Chen, CPC Secretary of the National Library of China, and Vice President of the Library Society of China, Zuochen Liu, President of Encyclopedia of China Publishing House, and Wei Lu, Dean of our School, all agree that Library Science · Encyclopedia of China (Third Edition) fully reflects the knowledge system of Chinese library science, highlights Chinese characteristics and achievements, and fully demonstrates the new development of library science in the world, which has irreplaceable literature value, academic value and important reference value.

Muyue Cui, former vice president of Zhengzhou University, said that Library Science · Encyclopedia of China (Third Edition) has outstanding value of inheriting civilization and educating people with culture.

Huanwen Cheng, Professor at Sun Yat-sen University, believed that the book is conducive to making China sound in the field of library science worldwide and enhancing the international influence of Chinese library industry.

Shuqing Chu, former curator of Hangzhou Library and Zhejiang Library, commented that this book is a necessary handbook, authoritative assistant and career ladder for librarians.

At the book launch conference, the editorial board and Encyclopedia of China Publishing House presented books to Jilin Library, Xinjiang Library, Shenzhen Library, Zhuozhou Library and Wufeng Tujia Autonomous County Library.
